Call Campaign During Non-Swf Period

Call Campaign During Non-Swf Period

Some professors have been directed during the non-swf period of May/June to engage in the college’s Call Campaign to contact prospective students this Spring to recruit those students to Durham College.

It is the union’s position that this time should have been on your Winter 2016 swf even if you are being asked to engage in this work during your non-swf period. If you would like to engage in this work and it was not reflected on your Winter 2016, it should be included on your Fall 2016 swf. If you do not want to engage in this work and it is not on a swf you cannot be forced to do this work if you have not agreed to it on a swf. Article 11.08 provides that activities undertaken in the non-swf period that are not on a swf are to be undertaken by the mutual consent of the supervisor and professor.
Article 11.02 provides that “[t]he SWF shall include all details of the total workload”. Everyone should receive .25 for “training” under complementary hours that refers to activities that include non-swf period activities such as AODA training. However, this does not cover student recruitment such as the Call Campaign.

Finally, it is the union’s position that, pursuant to Article 11.02 A1 (a) your dean must discuss any proposed workload on a swf with the professor and the professor must agree prior to the issuance of a swf. Failing agreement, a professor should refer the workload matter to WMG for resolution.
