Partial Load Faculty Teaching Non-Post Secondary Level Courses

Partial Load Faculty Teaching Non-Post Secondary Level Courses

All Partial Load faculty are subject to two different pay scales depending on whether they teach at the Non-Post Secondary or Post Secondary level (see collective agreement pp. 59, 60).

Some partial load faculty teach simultaneously in both areas:  Non-Post Secondary and Post-Secondary.  Your union local feels that Partial Load faculty should be entitled to all their pay at the higher pay scale if they teach part of their hours at the Post-Secondary level.  Our reasoning is based on the fact that full time professors at Durham who teach in both areas (Non-Post-Secondary as well as Post-Secondary) DO get treated as fully Post-Secondary in their workloads.

Your union representatives met with Durham College administrators to discuss this issue and ask for all Partial Load who teach in both areas to be paid according to the Post Secondary pay scale.  Unfortunately, this request was denied.

Management will not pay all hours at the Post-Secondary level for those Partial Load faculty who teach in both areas.  Your local leadership feels this is not a decision that demonstrates full appreciation of Partial Load faculty’s work.  However, after taking this issue forward, all we can recommend is that all Partial Load faculty carefully track their teaching contracts to ensure that all Post-Secondary teaching hours are paid according to the correct grid, on page 60 of your collective agreement.
