Negotiations – Important Message re: Communications

Negotiations – Important Message re: Communications

It’s that time of the year again when most faculty have only 2 things on their minds, summer holidays and how to enjoy the time that flies by so fast. Others are busy working, but hopefully will enjoy nicer weather and less stress.

One thing must be clarified before the end of June and that is how do you get the updates on Negotiations which start June 2nd ?  From experience, I know that there are faculty who want to hear or be sent NOTHING and those who say they do not get enough or at least not in a timely manner. I also receive e-mails about Union rhetoric – well, it’s all in the perception and we can’t do much about that.

You can choose how often and how your receive information from the Negotiating Team:

  1. Go online to www.opseu.org
  2. Go online to our Local web site www.opseu354.ca
  3. Receive individual e-mails from OPSEU

Regarding number 3 above, if you receive “OPSEU this week” from OPSEU, then your e-mail address is current. If not, and you wish to receive the latest news immediately, please contact Judy Herbrick in the Union Office (x2449 or e-mail judy.herbrick@durhamcollege.ca) for directions on how to update your OPSEU member data. It will take you around 5 minutes after speaking with Judy.

I believe the 3 methods above allow you the choice. For example, if you are not on the OPSEU mailing list and wish to remain that way, simply go to the 2 web sites suggested.

Finally, we all hope that negotiations go well and are collaborative. The 2 chairs and vice chairs of the College/Union Bargaining Team met in May to begin to forge a more collaborative working relationship. We hope to have an agreement ready for you upon your return to work in late August-September! If not, we will be asking that you support the Negotiating Team so they can accomplish the work they were mandated by our members to do!
