Last Tuesday, October 2nd, Premier Doug Ford signaled his intent on siding with the Big Business lobby by rolling back our new workplace rights.
However, they’re not confident to scrap our rights because 66% of Ontarians support the $15 minimum wage, 42% of PC voters do too. Even 62% of small businesses support it.
On top of it all, the economy is doing great. The Statistics Canada data show that the total number of hours worked across Ontario grew fastest AFTER the minimum wage rose to $14 in the Food Services and Accommodation sector – the sector with the highest concentration of minimum wage employment — average hours of work grew even faster, increasing by 13% between January and August. Wages in that sector also grew at by an impressive 10% – faster than the rest of Ontario (click here to download shareable).
NOW is the time to take action and unequivocally say “hands off $15 minimum wage and decent work laws!”
Join an action near you on Monday, October 15 to keep these rights!
