We would like to inform you of our fall general membership meeting (GMM) to be held virtually on Tues., Sept. 19th at 6:30 p.m.
To register your attendance, please send an email to office@opseu354.ca. Only full-time and partial load faculty can attend. Once your membership with Local 354 has been verified, you’ll be sent a video link for the meeting, along with budget documents and a full agenda. Among the agenda items will be the election of a new Local secretary, discussion of a potential reduction in your local union dues and the selection of delegates for upcoming OPSEU conferences. To encourage participation at this important meeting, we will also be holding two random draws for $50 Amazon gift cards.
Local 354 steward Rukmani Ramasubbaralyalu, a professor in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Information Technology, has been nominated to fill the vacant secretary position on the Local’s Executive. Kathleen Stewart has been performing the dual role of Secretary-Treasurer since the position went unfilled at the spring GMM.
Others are welcome to run for the secretary position, but you must first be an elected steward to be nominated for an officer role. The secretary position involves running communications and record keeping for the Local. This position will be interim until the spring election for the full local executive committee. Nomination forms for steward and secretary are available on our website here: https://opseu354.ca/member-information/links/
Should more than one candidate be nominated, an electronic vote will be conducted within 24 hours under the guidance of OPSEU’s Region 3 Office. The same is true of any votes that may also be needed to select convention delegates or make changes to the local levy.
Only members in good standing (those who have signed a union card) can participate in elections, but all members may vote on local motions.
If you have still not signed a membership card or are unsure of your union status, please visit this link: https://hub03.opseu.org/Forms/emaweb. From there you can find out if you currently have a union card on file, and if not, you can fill out the application.
Kindest regards,
Phil Raby
Local 354 President
