Is your new SWF an accurate reflection of your workload?

Our SWFs have now been issued.  If you have any questions regarding your SWF and your workload assignment, including the calculation of your type of evaluation/feedback factors, your complementary functions/hours, and or any other items you would like to review, email us at wmg@opseu354.ca.

Make sure you are in agreement with the evaluation factors that have been assigned on your SWF.  This factor translates into how much time you require to provide feedback and grade assignments each week, for each course.  Please ensure you have articulated to your supervisor the attribution of hours required to grade and provide feedback for each course.

If you have updated or changed the evaluations in a course, be sure to communicate once again to your supervisor the accurate time required for evaluation and feedback so it can be properly recorded on the SWF.  Remember, you are the expert and the person providing the feedback. Your supervisor won’t know how long it takes unless you communicate with them.

Article 11.01 E2 iv clearly states, “Where a course requires more than one type of evaluation and feedback, the teacher and the supervisor shall agree upon a proportionate attribution of hours.”  It is only if such agreement cannot be reached the College shall apply evaluation factors in the same proportion as the weight attached to each type of evaluation in the final grade for the course.” If you and your supervisor cannot agree on the proportionate attribution of hours, then the faculty signs the SWF to the Workload Monitoring Group (WMG) for review and a decision.

As per the CA, Article 11.02 A 3, “following receipt of the SWF, the teacher shall indicate in writing on the SWF whether in agreement with the total workload.  If not in agreement the teacher and the supervisor may add such other comments as is considered appropriate and may indicate in writing that the workload should be reviewed by the College WMG (Workload Monitoring Group)“.

You have five working days from the date of receipt of your SWF to examine, sign and submit to your supervisor, and absent such indication, it is considered that you are in agreement with the total workload.

All workload, including the following examples: research, committees, internal and external meetings, accreditation, hours for coordinator duties – plus your step(s), mentoring, course lead(s), and/or curriculum development/course conversion,d shall be represented on your SWF on an hour for hour basis. This also includes open houses and the recent introduction of “program information sessions.” If you are being asked to work any of these that must be noted on your SWF as well.

Reminder – all workload shall be reflected on the SWF and members are encouraged to dialogue with their supervisor regarding their workload. Discuss any concerns with your dean and if there if mutual agreement cannot be reached, then sign your SWF, making appropriate comments in the space provided: “Faculty Member’s Comments,” and placing a check mark in the box labelled “Proposed Workload Referred to the Workload Monitoring Group” [11.02 A 3 & 4]. (If you need more space for comments, attach a separate sheet.) Your steward can assist you with the wording. Be brief. Submit this document to your supervisor within five working days of receipt of the SWF.
