New SWF training announced and important changes to release hours for faculty research

Release Hours for Faculty Research

As a result of a recent Workload Resolution Arbitrator hearing (WRA hearing) , the union has learned that members involved in research are provided release time in hours, not a course release (or more) despite forms such as the College and Community Innovation grant form noting “course load reduction for professors.”

This means faculty are not granted a course release(s), but rather released via complementary hours attributed on a SWF – two very different and distinct applications on a SWF.

The union is strongly advising members who wish to engage and/or conduct research to contact the Chief Steward and/or the President accordingly to learn more about how research hours are distributed before committing to engage in such a time consuming activity.

SWF Info Sessions

In addition, our Chief Steward Charlene Di Danieli has organized another series of virtual SWF information sessions to help members decipher their SWFs and ensure the demands placed on their time are fair and aligned with our contract.

The SWF sessions will run:

– Tuesday, May 10 from 1-2 pm
– Thursday, May 12 from 9:30 am -10:30 am
– Friday, May 13 from 10-11:00 am

If interested in attending any of these sessions please email the local office at office@opseu354.ca and the Zoom link will be provided to you.
